You cannot control outcomes.
Instead of setting goals based on outcomes, set goals based on actions. Make them quantifiable and entirely within your control. If you take the set of actions you believed to be optimal and don’t achieve the desired outcome, it is a critique of the type of actions you took. You are working in a low-information environment. Your actions were not optimized for the goal and timeframe. Take that feedback, adjust your action goal, and move forward. Repeat.
What is work?
Work is the effort you expend to get something in the future. High-quality work is generally difficult in the moment but rewarding in the future. Low-quality work is easy in the moment but difficult in the future. When I say work 12 hours a day, I mean eliminate your bad habits for 12 hours every day. If you don’t want to do the work right now, great. You can walk, read, or do nothing. These are all good habits. However, they can only entertain you for so long. Eventually, high-quality work will seem more desirable. Good habits are high-quality work. Bad habits are low-quality work.
All things in life come from compound interest.
Your actions today are the most important actions you will take in your entire life. All the actions following today DEPEND on the actions you take today. They will determine your future. Early effects have outsized impacts. The chain of causality ripples outward into everything. You cannot see this directly, as it occurs over time. A small shift in mentality today can lead to an entirely different life in five years. These actions are small. They will not reward you now. You need to be patient.
The most successful people don’t care what you think.
To be successful is to reject the normal way of thinking about life. You begin to think of things for their utility and not for their impact on your status. Most people spend their whole life in pursuit of status. This is the oldest game, and it is the most natural game to play. Do not let your biology rule over you. You no longer need to care about status. It is an evil game where almost everyone loses. Pick the games where you and everyone around you can simultaneously win. If you help the tide to rise, it will carry you and everyone around you.
Status is fragile.
You cannot control the thoughts of others. Status is the thoughts of others. If you approach life with status as your aim, you will be thrown around by the crazed minds you have chosen to chain yourself to. Let go. Live your life for a real reason. All else is superficial. You CAN change the trajectory of the world, but you will not see it today. Once you have found a clear mission, the path forward will be obvious. The path to a goal is exactly as ambiguous as the goal itself.
It is now time to get to work. Spend your time doing valuable things with valuable people for valuable goals. Your actions are your tools. Use them wisely.
“..you will be thrown around by the crazed minds you have chosen to chain yourself to.” Very insightful. Reminds me of cause and effect. Keeping our own minds and missions intact doesn’t have to make sense to anybody!
Powerful syntax. I don’t believe in free will, playing cards however.
